A Chinese Inside Painted Glass Snuff Bottle, Signed Ma Shaoxuan (1867-1939)
馬少宣內畫玻璃牧童吹笛圖鼻煙壺
Signed Ma Shaoxuan (1867-1939), dated winter in wuxu year, corresponding to year 1898
Of flattened form, painted on one side with a oxherd playing flute riding on a buffalo in a river, the red sun and continuous mountain in distance; the reverse written in black ink with a poem by Song dynasty poet, Lei Zhen, signed Ma Shaoxuan, followed by a red seal, xuan; glass stopper.
Height with stopper 2 3/4 in, 7 cm.

Condition
Overall fair condition with light wear and snuff residue to the interior of the bottle, a few characters in the inscriptions are slightly smudged.
